Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, in-law and friend passed away on January 27, 2021.

Loving, loyal and always laughing. This is how we will remember Kenneth Crocker. He was a devoted husband to Phyllis and loving father to Ken, David and Deb. He loved his grandchildren Amanda, Amelia and Alex and delighted in his great granddaughters. He welcomed daughters-in-law, Julie and Emily, and grandsons-in-law Will and Randy to the family right away and wanted nothing more than for his kids and grandkids to be happy. He was abundantly proud of his family and their accomplishments. And, boy, when you got a hug from Ken, you knew you’d been hugged!

Ken was born in Saginaw, MI, the youngest of four children of Florence and Henry Crocker. He was, by all accounts including his own, left to his own devices, and he got away with a lot. He had a joyful, fun-loving demeanor and was known for his pranks and practical jokes. He was predeceased by his two older brothers, John and Bee and his sister Dorothy.

As an Army Specialist, Ken served in Korea after the Korean War and was stationed in Inchon. He returned to Michigan upon the death of his father. There he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Phyllis, whom he called Phiz-Babe. They were married for 62 years.

Kenneth Crocker

Ken worked for General Motors’ Saginaw Steering Gear Division for 30 years, primarily as an innovative quality control analyst. He helped implement statistical quality control programs and won numerous awards for his innovations. Ken and Phyllis devoted much of their time raising and supporting their three children. Ken never had the opportunity to attend college, but he and Phyllis stressed the importance of education to their kids, who each earned Bachelor degrees from the University of Michigan and also advanced degrees.

Ken was active in the Masonic Lodge and served as Grand Master in the Caro Blue Lodge. He also served in a leadership role with Job’s Daughters in Michigan.

Ken never met a stranger; he greeted everyone as if they were already a friend. Whether walking his dog, Snowball (preceded by Mite-Mite and Sadie) or out for a ride in his golf cart with one of his well-trained, trusty dogs beside him, Ken met and greeted all of his neighbors.

Ken was a fix-it guy and loved puttering on his TRS80 computer, in his tool shed, and with his orchids. He had quite a green thumb and could coax any plant to good health. He was a ham radio buff and spent hours at night contacting other radio operators around the world.

For most of his adult life, Ken was a member of the United Methodist Church and, with Phyllis, sang in the church choir during Sunday and Christmas Services. In his later years, Ken remained deeply devoted to caring for Phyllis. But most of all, Ken enjoyed being around friends and family. He will be greatly missed.
